Match worn Ajax L/S third shirt in 2005 by Maxwell #5 vs. Willem II (KNVB Cup)

Description Match worn Ajax long-sleeved third (3rd) shirt by the club’s number 5 Maxwell in the semi-final of KNVB Amstel Cup against Willem II on 21 April 2005. Maxwell played all competition matches in the 2004-05 season, before suffering a cruciate ligament tear in this specific match. He then missed out on the last five Eredivisie matches. This was his last match for Ajax. Ajax played the 2004–2005 season under head coach Ronald Koeman and finished 2nd in the Eredivisie, behind PSV. In Europe, Ajax competed in the UEFA Champions League but were eliminated in the group stage, finishing third and moving into the UEFA Cup, where they were knocked out by Auxerre in the round of 32. This third shirt was meant for the European matches. In these matches, the UEFA patches were present on the sleeves. The only time Ajax wore this shirt without patches was in the cup match against Willem II. Maxwell is a former Brazilian left-back known for his technical quality and attacking support from defence. Maxwell joined Ajax in 2001 from Cruzeiro and quickly became a key player, helping the club win two Eredivisie titles (2001–2002 and 2003–2004). After leaving Ajax in 2006, he played for Inter, Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain, winning multiple league titles in Italy, Spain and France, as well as the UEFA Champions League with Barcelona in 2011. Maxwell also earned caps for Brazil and is known for being one of the most decorated full-backs of his generation. On Heitinga’s shirt, you can see that the start of the sponsor (the ‘A’) is placed higher than the top of the Ajax logo (if you draw horizontal lines).
