Scotland national football team competed at Euro 1992 in Sweden, where they were eliminated in the group stage after a 3-0 win over the CIS and defeats to Germany and the Netherlands. Following the tournament, Scotland focused on qualifying for the 1994 FIFA World Cup, performing consistently in a group with Italy, Portugal, Switzerland, Malta and Estonia. Despite strong results, Scotland finished third behind Italy and Switzerland and narrowly missed out on qualification.
